About

Bernal Chaves left his homeland, a lush place where rain falls generously and kindness and simplicity cloak something more profound and more complex—paradise for many, a boundary for him. Following an inner call toward self-exploration, he slipped away in search of hideouts for his queries. That journey took him to Buenos Aires and Santiago in the south, then across the Atlantic, all the while in search of new landscapes and sounds that resonated with his memories of boyhood. He made it to Hamburg with the baggage of distance and broken memories. There, under the grey skies and muted winter light, songs and greenery sprouted from the cracks: raw, melodic reflections on what was gone and what was still taking shape.

Based now out of Hamburg, Bernal combines dreamy indie atmospherics with the folk roots of his Latin American heritage to create a grounded yet volatile sound. His voice and guitar exude warmth, juxtaposed against the volatility of his sonic experimentation, echoing the dichotomies of his own life. Grasping its own imperfection and unpredictability as its two guiding principles, Bernal is working on his debut album, with tracks including ‘Hammock in the Cas Tree’, ‘Refugio’, and ‘Tonight’, tracing the search for the meaning of longing and home through the prism of an outsider. His music seeks to provide space for vulnerability—a quiet form of resistance, calling upon us to feel, recall, and dream of a more empathetic world.
